Why Authors Should Copyright Their Published Book
If you paid for a cover, paid for editing, paid for your time — why wouldn’t you pay to lock it down? You ain’t hustling backwards out here. That copyright stamp ain’t optional. It’s the protection plan for your legacy.

🖤 Let’s Talk Ownership
You wrote the book. You paid for the cover. You hit publish.
But if you didn’t file your copyright, you’ve left your legacy exposed.
A lot of new authors assume their work is automatically protected once it’s published. And technically, it is — the moment you write it, you own it.
But in court? That “technical ownership” doesn’t always hold up.
If someone steals your book, republishes your chapters, or uses your work without permission, the only thing that proves ownership is an official U.S. Copyright registration.
🧾 If It’s Yours, Make It Official
Legal Protection – If someone infringes on your work, a registered copyright allows you to pursue legal action — and collect actual damages.
Proof of Authorship – It gives you a government-stamped receipt that says, “This work belongs to me.”
Peace of Mind – You’ve invested time, money, and energy. Protect it all.
Professionalism – If you’re serious about your writing career, this is non-negotiable.
💡 Don’t Assume the Platform Protects You
Just because your book is on Amazon or IngramSpark doesn’t mean your rights are secured.
And unless your publisher specifically includes copyright registration in their services (most don’t), that step is still yours to handle.
At Griot Publishing House, we teach every client the importance of ownership — and that starts with filing your copyright early, not after someone’s already copied you.
🧠 From the Griot Files:
“If it’s worth publishing, it’s worth protecting.”
Ready to File?
Griot Publishing offers support for authors who want to file their copyright the right way — no guesswork, no confusion. Whether we walk you through it or handle it for you, you don’t have to do it alone.
