The Essential Contract Checklist

Griot Publishing House acquires limited publishing rights necessary to produce, distribute, and market your book in the formats you’ve selected (eBook, paperback, or both).
All other rights remain yours — including adaptation rights, audio, film, and merchandising — unless otherwise agreed in writing.

🔒 You keep ownership of your intellectual property. Griot simply helps bring it to life.

You do.
Griot Publishing House does not purchase or claim your copyright.
Your copyright remains in your name, and it will appear as such in your book’s copyright page.
We publish your work under license — not ownership.

Yes.
Authors may cancel the publishing agreement at any time by providing written notice.
However, if work has already begun on your project, a $50 cancellation fee applies (for eBook contracts) to cover production time.
Once your book is fully published and services rendered, no cancellation fees apply.

✉️ You’re never locked in. Griot believes in creative freedom — not restrictive contracts.

Your story, characters, and world remain 100% your property.
Griot Publishing House has no ownership or claim beyond the right to publish the submitted manuscript in its agreed form.
If you later write sequels, spin-offs, or companion works, those remain completely yours to publish anywhere.

 No.
Each book contract stands alone.
We welcome returning authors, but we don’t require exclusivity for future titles or series.
You choose where and how to publish your next work.

🌿 We build partnerships — not chains.

Royalties are calculated from net sales, after distributor fees or retailer percentages are deducted (for example, Amazon’s marketplace fees).
Griot authors receive one of the highest royalty shares in independent publishing, ensuring you keep the majority of your book’s earnings.

Payments are issued quarterly via your selected payment method (PayPal, Zelle, or check) with full royalty statements provided.

Griot Publishing House provides an ISBN under our registered imprint at half the cost of a personal ISBN.
You may choose to use your own ISBN at full cost, though we generally recommend publishing under Griot’s ISBN for broader recognition and cataloging efficiency.
We can assist you in obtaining your own ISBN upon request for a small processing fee.

📚 An ISBN under Griot ensures professional distribution and recordkeeping without changing your copyright.

In the event of a business merger or ownership transfer, all author agreements and payments continue under the same terms.
If significant operational changes occur, authors will receive formal notice and may choose to terminate the contract in writing during that period without penalty.

If Griot Publishing House ever ceases operations, all rights immediately revert to you, the author.
Your book, your rights, and your royalties remain protected — always.

🛡️ We protect your work as if it were our own.

Your book will be formatted and prepared for print exactly as submitted, unless you purchase professional editing services.
Editing is optional and available at $1.50 per page, due with your initial down payment.
You’ll have final approval of any changes before publication.

Authors may request changes within 7 days after delivery of the initial file at no additional cost.
All requested edits must be submitted together.
After the 7-day window or outside the first revision list, changes are billed at $2.50 per page.
Additional pages or images will be quoted based on scope.

Author accounts are password-protected.
Only you have access to your files, and we never share your materials without written consent.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login information and notifying us of any unauthorized access.
