noun
plural noun: compilations

Book Compilation Tables

Everyone is a potential Author, but not Everyone is a potential Writer!

  •  Authorship is the creating part, and writing is manifesting that creative part via books, music, artistry, etc. The Internet and print-on-demand technology including the coming use of in-store kiosks, has given the reading consumer the power to create his or her own book or compilation of printed materials.

  • Although we have moved into the digital age of reading materials, there are still many book lovers out there who love to curl up to a good paperback book while lying in bed sipping on hot chocolate.  Many Aspiring Authors never have the opportunity to publish their writings due to publishing costs. We at IGPH, have come up with a way for those Authors to publish their writings at a very affordable cost.

What is a Compilation Book?

  • Compilation books are written by more than 1 Author on a subject.  Examples of a compilation book is one with different interviews or chapters written by more than 1 Author. Compilation books present Authors with a great opportunity for book and self promotion.
  • Some Authors collect a series of stories that revolve around a central theme. Articles can also be used in a similar manner. You can invite people to write an entire chapter in order to provide a variety of angles for your book. This is a good idea if your book is lacking certain expertise and knowledge.

Here's a Book Compilation Example

“Secrets of… Exposed” Series - Dale Beaumont

Dale is an inspirational entrepreneur and his “Secrets of” series.  His winning formula is to have certain questions answered by all participants in the book.

They also have a resource page where you can learn more about the individuals involved. Dale has also made his books into a brilliant online resource offering interviews with some of the top coaches, leaders and authors in the world.

There is a free 21 day trial of his membership site where you can get access to ALL the “Secrets of” books as well as audio, video and downloads on topics like personal development, internet marketing and inspirational success stories. I have just watched a fantastic video of Richard Branson talking about his business and his life - he is one inspirational man!

Reasons why Authors should consider Book Compilation publishing

  • Cheaper way to get your writings into print:  Book publishing can become quite costly. Many aspects have to be taken into consideration that could affect the price of publishing a complete manuscript. The number of pages, the size of the book and colored images can change the price drastically. When you connect with other Authors, you divide these printing costs evenly among each of you. Check out the Comp Table prices here.

  • You promote yourself!  You can get your BookSite and book title in front of a whole new audience by being in a compilation book.

  • You can make a nice profit: As one of the Comp Authors, you can buy extra copies of the book at a very low cost and sell it as Retail price which can increase your income.

  • Other people promote you. Each of the Com Authors will generally have bought copies of the book at wholesale prices in order to resell them for a profit, or they (books) will be giving away to Clients and Friends. As people read the book, they come across you and check out your BookSite.

  • You keep total copyrights to your own story that is within a compilation book. Each Comp Author’s story, recipe or poem will be copywritten to the original Creator. Check out the Book Publishing Agreement details here.

  • Replenish your book stock in as little as 24 hours. You can order copies of the compilation book 24 hours, 7 days a week. Only those who have Authored the compilation will be allowed to purchase at the Comp Author's special price.

  • Compilation book may be published as an eBook (digital book) for easy reading on many different devices such as the Kindle, Nook and even your iPad. eBook Pricing starts at $350 for 200 pages or less.

Picking the Right Book Genre

Writing is all about connecting with the one who is reading your book. Before writing your story, consider these three basic questions.

  1. Who is your target audience?
  2. What does your ideal audience member look like?
  3. What will your book bring to their lives?

View the list of genres below to find one that will fit your book idea. If you don't see your genre, you can create your own Compilation Table.

  • Contemporary Romance tells stories in the modern era with true-to-life settings and characters.
  • Historical: Historical genre tells stories set in a specific time, usually pre-World War II.
  • Multicultural: Fiction or Non-Fiction writings revolving around people of color and different cultures.
  • Paranormal: Writings involve a supernatural element taking in tropes from sci-fi or fantasy, like time travel, monsters, etc.
  • Alternate History: It asks the question “What if?” with regards to actual historical events.
  • High Fantasy: These are stories emphasizing the world or a race’s fate with a young hero coming face to face with ultimate evil.
  • Dystopian: Currently, being one of the best-selling book genres, these are stories that paint a very bleak picture of a futuristic world.
  • Romance: These writings often contain "love" vibrations that brings forth warm and happy endings.
  • Thrillers: This popular book genre explores the spectrum of emotions.
  • Crime: Well-written crime thrillers are page-turners that keep the readers hooked while anticipating what is next.
  • Psychological Fiction: Emphasized writings explore the spiritual, emotional, and mental lives of the characters, and examines the reasons for the behaviors of the character.
  • Horror: Explores the hidden depths of what is possible in the darkness of our world and minds.
  • Fantasy and Science Fiction: Readers flock to this genre because it takes them on a journey to distant stars and distant eras in the far future or long-forgotten past. They introduce the readers to creatures of wonder and wondrous civilizations. The limit is the imagination of the author.
  • Children: Children’s fiction is one of the most difficult but rewarding book genres. And there will always be a need for a good age-appropriate tale for children.
  • Inspirational: A large percentage of books in this category are considered self-help, self-improvement material. Such writings are concerned with business success, wealth acquisition, and personality growth.

COMPILATIONS Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at books@griotpublishinghouse.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

 Minimum/Maximum of Authors is 2

We refer to Publishing Clients who are assigned or contracted to a chosen Comp Table as Comp Authors.

Each of you will receive 60 quality books, with YOUR chapter inside delivered to your door.

 Maximum pages is 100

All of our books are printed on trade paper (Paperback). We do offer to print your books in hard cover at an additional $12.00 per book including shipping. eBooks are available as well.

Colored pages can be added for a charge of .75 each page.

 Book Size: 5.5x8

No- changing the book size means that the manuscript has to undergo a new formatting session. If we were to allow different sized for this project, it would mean more money being charged. You have the option of publishing your own book and choosing which size you desire.

Each Author will own his/her copyright of the work submitted for production. Copyright registration fee is included in the price per Author.

Griot Publishing will include a page outlining how other authors can become published, and reserves the right to inform readers of additional products and services in any publication. All authors taking part can promote any product or service they offer in their bio at the end of their chapter, however you cannot do so in the body of your chapter, only at the end. This extra page will not be included as a charge in your package. Griot Publishing reserves the right to reject products and services that are a conflict of interest to the co-Author or book subject.

The book will be priced at $16.95 each and printed in the barcode. We included the price on the back cover to allow you leverage to adjust the price as you wish. We recommend that you sell your book for $12.95 + $2.95 shipping and handling. You can also sell it for $16.95 and offer free shipping. At the end of the day, it is up to you whatever price you choose to sell it for.

Yes. You may order up to 5000 books at one time. If you want to order more than that in a single order, contact customer service for a price quote.

Each additional book priced @ $3.95 + shipping & handling.

Yes. We will perform basic editing on every manuscript being submitted for each Comp Table. If your manuscript requires extensive editing, you will be given the option to purchase our proofreading/editing service that will correct your manuscript and get it print ready. You can also work with your co-Author to help you with your chapter to avoid additional costs.

It is almost impossible for us to reject a chapter. This is because our goal is to connect you with other Authors who would make great co-Authors in a comp book. However, while we believe we can find a place for any Author, we are aware that there may be that one time where we will have to reject a chapter. If WE do not accept your chapter (at the sole discretion of Griot Publishing), we will refund 100% of your down payment, so you have nothing to lose!

Books ship 2 days AFTER all Authors have signed off on their manuscript. Deliver takes between 4-7 business days.

Standard Shipping within the US is included in the price. Contact customer service for any shipments outside of the U.S.

That depends on you. The profit that you can make is based on a few factors:

  1. 1How much you sell your book for;
  2. How many books you purchase at one time. When you replenish your book stock, the more books that you purchase the cheaper the unit price is. The cheaper the unit price is, the more you will profit. For example: If you purchase 100 extra books @ $3.75 each, and you sell them for $12.95 each, that means a $9.00 profit for you. You will make approximately $900.00 profit after spending only $375 plus shipping and handling.

Each Comp Table has a set amount of Authors which have deadlines, so once you've committed to be included in a Comp book, we prefer that you follow through with your commitment for that book. Although there are no refunds (except if WE reject your chapter), we do understand things happen. So in some instances we can transfer you to a future book project at a later date if required.

We have no plans to do so at this stage. However, should a foreign publisher be interested, then we will definitely look into expanding to other countries!

When you want someone to review your work, you should have their undivided attention. The Griot Publishing staff already has their plate full working with other Authors trying to make deadlines, so with that being said, please do NOT send us any manuscripts/books or ask us to read any at this time. We do offer an Assessment service if you desire professionals to proofread your work.

Because others are on the same project and deadlines have to be made, we do not offer payment plans that will exceed past 6 months. Because we do not offer refunds, we have made our payment plans under $100 to assist in making it easier for you to make your payments. Please make sure that this is something that you can commit to before making your down payment and sending in your manuscript.

OWNERSHIP Frequently Asked Questions

Each Author will own his/her copyright of the work submitted for production. Copyright registration fee is included in the price per Author.

Griot Publishing owns the copyright to the actual book, however, YOU (Author) retain full copyright for your own contributed chapter. Since you are the owner of your chapter within the book, you can use it as an article, expand on it to write a complete book or record it for a bonus mp3 audio. You do not have the right to use your co-Author’s chapters outside of the contract without the written permission from him/her for any reason.

Yes! Your NAME appears on the FRONT COVER and TITLE PAGE along with your co-Comp Authors.

Of Course! There will be room for you at the end of your chapter to include your name, your business name, your web address, phone, an offer to encourage people to visit your BookSite. The idea of the book is to showcase you to the world, so we make it easy for the media and potential clients and customers to contact you.

Of course not. Whatever you make on your book sells is your profit. You don’t even owe Griot Publishing any part of your profit either. Each Author will obtain his/her own amount of books to sell as they wish. All Authors will keep their own profits.

Griot Publishing ISBN is included on all compilations.

No. Compilation books are not considered to be self- published material. Each compilation book is published under Griot Publishing House, Inc., and will contain our Griot Publishing Number. Read more about ISBN’s here.
